Working in conjunction with Derive Architecture, behind the scenes, Gotcha Speckle Park stands on a foundation of engineering excellence:
• 9000 tonnes of imported gravel fill, form a flood mound, ensuring resilience against nature’s forces. This mound was put to the test shortly after its completion during the 1 in 100-year flood in March 2021.
• 200 driven treated timber mini piles provide stability and support, allowing this architectural masterpiece to rise confidently. Originally specified as screw piles, but was determined on site that these would be unsuitable and the design was changed to the driven mini piles.
• A polished concrete waffle pod slab underfoot ensures both durability and aesthetic appeal.
• Over 1200 cubic meters of concrete was poured during the build. Much of this with waterproofing additives or low shrink properties.
• Hydronic in-slab heating ensures comfort even during the coldest seasons.
• Off-form suspended concrete terrace roofs create seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
• The post-tension concrete ceiling/floor slab in the open-plan living room exemplifies structural innovation.
• Off-form concrete columns stand as elegant pillars of strength.
