Perched high on a challenging, steep hill, this architecturally designed three-storey home masterfully captures panoramic ocean, coastal, and mountain vistas that are simply breathtaking. The client’s bold decision to build here was driven by these spectacular north- and east-facing views, rewarding them with an unparalleled visual feast from nearly every room.
This build came with its share of challenges: tight vehicle access, limited material storage, multiple crane operations, and complex structural alignments requiring precise measurement work centred around the lift well. Safety was paramount as extensive scaffolding supported work at great heights amid strong coastal winds, all while managing awkward cladding installation.
In an impressive example of sustainability and ingenuity, close to 1,300 recycled sand-filled tires were repurposed to stabilise the steep sand bank surrounding the home, effectively retaining the natural terrain.
The home’s modern aesthetic features a sophisticated blend of CSR Cemintel Barestone, spotted gum vertical cladding, and polished concrete blocks. Stainless steel and glass balustrades wrap the hardwood decks, enhancing the sleek coastal design.
Spread over three levels, the house offers two distinctly separate zones. A self-contained two-bedroom granny flat includes private decks and its own entrance, providing independence and versatility. The main residence occupies the upper floor with a master suite and expansive open-plan living. The entry level hosts a guest bedroom, alfresco kitchen, third bathroom, and a welcoming foyer complete with hardwood stairs and a state-of-the-art lift.
Guests are drawn in by a stunning curved hardwood fence leading to the front porch, where an oversized pivot door conceals a smaller entry door. Inside, a striking hardwood and glass staircase pairs with a futuristic passenger lift, ensuring easy, age-proof living.
Every space is crafted with precision and bespoke detail, from custom-built furniture tailored to each room to the carefully considered proportions throughout. Spotted gum floors with acoustic underlay complement open living spaces, where the panoramic views beckon you to relax by the gas fireplace or enjoy the sunroom’s quiet retreat.
The sleek, compact kitchen hides cutting-edge European integrated appliances and smart storage solutions. It’s designed to entertain effortlessly, with a bifold servery window and French doors opening onto a sheltered tiled terrace with an adjustable roof, great for managing the site’s coastal winds.
Timber craftsmanship is celebrated throughout, reflecting the client’s heritage in the timber trade, with custom vanities, recycled posts, flooring, decking, and fencing adding warmth and character. With four luxurious bathrooms worthy of a five-star hotel and three separate laundries, this home combines practical functionality with high-end comfort.
