About This Project

Set in the stylish enclave of Pacific Palms, Coastal Essentialism is a home where contemporary architecture meets a thoughtful philosophy: reduce to what is necessary, while embracing joy, nostalgia, and warmth. Designed by its architect-owner, the home’s guiding principle of “essentialism” delivers a space that is refined, inclusive, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Formed in a C-shape around a private courtyard, the exterior features Lexicon White Linea weatherboards, oversized timber fascias, and a sweeping shale-grey skillion roof reminiscent of mid-century beach houses. This precise roofline detailing required bespoke framing to conceal structural elements while keeping eaves and ceilings perfectly aligned.

Approaching through a custom hardwood gate, visitors enter a serene courtyard framed by pared-back coastal plantings and natural timbers. Inside, the modern, masculine interior is defined by clean lines, 9-foot and raked ceilings, and square-set finishes. Expansive louvre windows with anodised aluminium blades connect indoor spaces to both the shaded courtyard and the lush rear garden with its sparkling pool.

Burnished concrete floors anchor a muted palette of Dulux Lexicon Quarter and green slate, while bespoke joinery combines Laminex Ultimate Matte finishes, 12mm Dekton benches, and premium appliances. The media room’s focal point is a Cheminees Philippe fireplace set on a custom concrete hearth, backed by Brickworks Nickel blocks, a sophisticated, textural centrepiece.

Lighting is intentionally minimal, with mood and task lighting highlighting feature elements. Bathrooms extend their floor tiles up selected walls for a clean, elegant finish, while clever aluminium detailing ensures crisp junctions with louvre windows.

Built during the challenges of the pandemic, this home is a study in precision, resilience, and craftsmanship. A coastal retreat that is both strikingly modern and warmly liveable.
